Choosing your course
Which level is right for me?
- Level 1: Your first ski instructor qualification.
- Level 2: Develop your skiing and teaching after Level 1 or another accepted qualification.
- Level 3: Progress from Level 2 towards advanced skiing and teaching.
Compare the courses and check the entry requirements. Unsure? Tell us about your skiing and qualifications.
Can I take Level 1 if I have never taught skiing?
Yes. Previous teaching experience is not required.
- Age: At least 14 on the first day.
- Skiing: Ski blue and black runs independently and confidently, using consistent parallel turns and controlling your speed.
See the official CSIA Level 1 requirements. If you are working toward this standard, ask us about preparation before booking.
Can I take Level 1 and Level 2 in the same season?
You can plan a pathway through both levels, provided you meet the Level 2 prerequisites before that course. Passing Level 1 does not guarantee a Level 2 place or result. Contact us with your preferred dates so we can help you plan suitable spacing and check availability.
What language will my course use?
- Levels 2 and 3: English.
- Level 1: Different languages may be available. Courses may be taught directly in the listed language or in English with interpretation.
Check the language for your date in the schedule. Ask us before booking if you need clarification.
Fees and membership
Where can I find the course fee?
See the current course fees, or choose your level or venue for its dates and fee. Prices are in Japanese yen (JPY). Optional pre-courses, partial programmes and retests have their own fees; ask us about the option you need.
What does my course fee include?
- Training/development and assessment in your selected programme.
- On successful certification: your qualification, a pin badge and a digital certificate downloadable from your CSIA member account.
Level 1 membership information is explained in the membership question below.
What should I budget for separately?
- Accommodation
- Lift tickets
- Meals
- Transport
- Ski equipment
- Membership renewal, if required
For arrangements at your selected venue, ask us before booking.
Do I need to arrange CSIA membership before Level 1 or renew it before Level 2/3?
- Level 1: The membership fee is included in your course fee. Successful candidates receive membership for the rest of that membership season.
- Passed Level 1 in the same season: Another renewal is not needed before Level 2 or 3.
- Members from an earlier season: Current-season membership is required; renew if you have not already done so.
- Membership season: 1 October to 30 September.

Already certified in another country? How do I join a CSIA course?
You may be eligible for CSIA Affiliate Membership. CSIA reviews your overseas qualification and determines your equivalency; it does not automatically award a CSIA certification.
- Apply to CSIA: Submit your qualifications and supporting documents through the official Affiliate Membership application ↗. Allow 10–15 business days after CSIA receives the application and supporting documents.
- After applying, contact Nobu at OTA: Tell us your existing qualification, application date, preferred course and dates.
- Discuss a waiting-list place: For Tomamu and Nekoma, we can check availability while your application is processed. An enquiry or waiting-list entry does not confirm a booking or guarantee a seat. We will explain the available options and how to confirm your place.
- Send your approval and membership confirmation: After approval and payment of the annual Affiliate Membership fee, you can register for programmes appropriate to your equivalency. We will check your eligibility and explain the next steps.
You must meet the course entry requirements before participation. For Yubari bookings, contact J-STYLE about their arrangements.
Planning your visit
Where are the courses held?
At Tomamu, Nekoma Mt. and Yubari in Japan. See the venue pages for dates and local arrangements. Nekoma Mt. dates are currently tentative; ask us to confirm course operation before booking travel.
Can you help me find accommodation?
Yes — contact us and we can suggest places previous participants have used. There are no partner accommodation packages, so please book and pay directly with your chosen property. Availability and prices depend on the property and dates.
What if accommodation at the resort is full?
Let us know your course dates and whether you will have a car. We can help you consider nearby accommodation or alternative course dates. Before booking elsewhere, check how you will get to the resort each day.
What time does the course start and finish, and where do we meet?
Times and meeting points vary by venue and programme. We will confirm these in your participant information. Please check those details before arranging daily transport; contact us if you have not received them or if a CSIA system email shows a different time.
What should I bring and read before the course?
- Skis, boots and poles
- Clothing suitable for the weather
- A daily lift ticket
- Lunch or money to buy food
Before attending, read the official candidate guide linked from your level page. Ask us if you need help finding the guide or planning your preparation.
